Terrorism and Insecurity in Nigeria

Abstract

This research is focused on terrorism and insecurity in Nigeria. The aim is to examine the effects and impacts of terrorism and insecurity on the socio-political life of Nigerians as well as their impacts on the Nigerian State. While the objectives are to evaluate both effects and impacts of terrorism and insecurity on the extreme poverty state of Nigerians, high unemployment rate, Nigeria's economic hardship and the food insecurity in Nigeria. The theoretical framework adopted were the frustration aggression theory and the social conflict theory in a triangulated form. The method of data sourcing adopted was the secondary method and the research design was the descriptive research design. Findings glaringly showed the decadence and the negative effects and impacts, that, which terrorism and insecurity have caused Nigerians and also the Nigerian State. In that regard, recommendations were made as follows; that the Nigerian political leaders should match political will with political actions to curb the activities of these terrorists. Government should apply the carrot and stick approach in the curbing mechanism to fight against terrorism, governments of both the federal and state should fortify security apparatus as well as prioritize intelligence gathering concerning the terrorists, among others.
